The Graphic Designs of SKYWATCH

Graphic designs by Bailey Kalesti. Film directed by Colin Levy.

THE GRAPHIC DESIGNS OF

SKYWATCH

SKYWATCH is a sci-fi proof of concept short film written & directed by Colin Levy. Six years in the making, funded via Kickstarter, and crafted by a crew of volunteers from around the world.

On SKYWATCH I was responsible for the design and animation of the User Interfaces seen in the film. Including the screen graphics for Mike’s laptop, Mike’s monitor, and the Portal screen. I also designed the logo, the poster, and edited a trailer ad for the film when it released.

Special thanks to Colin (Director), Sandro Blattner (VFX Supervisor), and Andre Danylevich (Producer) for being amazing to work with and spend time with. This project was a labor of love, with each person dedicated to the quality of the film. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to contribute!

FINAL UI FRAMES

Big thanks to Sandro and his team for doing the final composites! My work was mostly Photoshop and After Effects. And thanks to Colin for adding a few extra elements to round things out later in production! Turned out great! 😊

MARKETING

I also helped with some marketing material, like the logo, poster, and some editing for an Instagram trailer after everything was finished. This stuff was a such a blast to work on. We developed a style that I love to create! I want to make more stuff like this.

 BEHIND THE SCENES

I joined the team in 2014, before principal photography had begun. Given the role UI plays in the film, Colin brought me in early. However, the bulk of the UI work was done in post-production.

Below are some of the UI concepts I made on the journey to find the look. As always, we made way more than what shows up in the final film!

Oh, and have you watched it yet? 😀
